Annual Employee Appreciation Event – 2006
In appreciation for the tremendous effort and success that has been put forth by our
office staff it was awesome to reward them all. The Annual Event celebration started
with a Tour Bus picking up the entire office team along with their guest for a two day
trip to Grants Pass in Southern Oregon. The festivities on Saturday included: a full
day professionally guided White Water Rafting Trip by the Galice Resort Team on
the Rogue River; dinner on the deck and overnight stay at the Riverside Inn overlooking
the Rogue River followed by music and entertainment at a private party. Sunday rolled
in early and all boarded the Rogue River Hellgate Jetboat for a four hour, 36 mile
round-trip from Grants Pass down river to the OK Corral for brunch, then through
spectacular Hellgate Canyon! It was a BLAST FOR EVERYONE!

Counteroffers are on the rise - BEWARE!!!!
The job market has been picking up and 2006 has proven to be a “candidate’s market”. We have more great opportunities then we do qualified candidates. As a result in this shift of supply and demand, counteroffers have been on the rise. A counteroffer can be tempting but be careful not to shoot yourself in the foot. Job changes are tough enough with the anxiety of a new company, leaving your friends and having to prove yourself to a new manager. These concerns can cloud anyone’s judgment. Changing jobs can be scary but it doesn’t mean it’s not the best move. Counteroffers can cause a lot of confusion and second guessing. Before you accept a counter you should consider where it’s coming from. Most counteroffers consist of more money, a promotion, new projects or more exposure. You have to ask yourself, “If you were worth “X” yesterday, why are you worth “X + Y” today?” Does that mean they’ve been under paying you this entire time or did you just get your next raise a little early? What is motivating your manager to give you a counteroffer? Managers are often evaluated by their ability to retain employees. The timing of your departure might affect a major project, increase their workload or even mess up a vacation schedule. It’s never a good time to have an employee quit. It may prove time-consuming and costly to replace you especially considering training, recruitment and relocation expenses. It’s much cheaper to keep you, even at a slightly higher salary so they can reduce your responsibilities and let you go on their time frame. Accepting a counteroffer can have negative consequences. You have demonstrated your disloyalty to the company by pursuing another opportunity and may never be considered a team player again. You are more likely to be placed at the top of the list for the next reduction in force as you have broken their trust. Aside from a short-term fix with accepting a counteroffer, very little will change in the company. After the dust settles you’re still at the same company with basically the same job. “A rule of thumb among recruiters is that more then 80% of those accepting counteroffers leave, or are terminated, within six to twelve months.” * Half of those that accept a counter reinitiate their job searches within 90days – MANAGERS BEWARE! To avoid the temptation of a counteroffer carefully consider your new opportunity and analyze it from every angle. Counteroffers disrespect the time and thought you put into your decision and the commitment you made to a new company.

Ringling Bros. & Barnum & Baily Circus
The iconic three-rings – each measuring 41-feet in diameter – have been a staple of Ringling Bros. since 1880 when P.T. Barnum joined forces with James Bailey. With this all-new production, Ringling Bros. breaks through the three-rings, and instead provides its performers with a single 130-feet by 80-feet performance area which becomes center stage for a storyline that is woven throughout the production. A new jumbo video screen also brings audiences closer to the daredevil thrills and comedic action like never before.
