TRI-STAR SEARCH, LLC
WE'RE ON THE MOVE TO A NEW OFFICE
HEADQUARTERS!!!!!
6960 SW VARNS ST.
TIGARD,OR. 97223
We are pleased to announce that Tri-Star Search, LLC will be moving offices effective November 10th, 2006. The new office will serve as our Corporate Headquarters as we expand into the Pacific NW. The office building will be fully remodeled to improve the workflow for our awesome team of recruiters and our clients! The new office is much bigger: it is four times as large! We have hired a number of experienced professionals to our team and this will allow us to be able to stretch out a bit more in our new space. In addition to the new office we’re taking PRODUCTIVITY and EXCELLENCE in RECRUITING to a whole new level by installing a cutting-edge VOIP phone and an improved network system: the systems will integrate voice, video, and data applications over our existing IP network giving us the ability to extend full telephone functionality to local and remote users. This means when we have client-in-office interviews, no matter how remote our clients or candidates, we’re equipped to provide video conferencing for the interview process directly from our office. There will be an open house after the remodel and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone!

Market Commentary

The Markets
Like a downstairs neighbor waiting for the other shoe to drop, investors haven’t fully embraced the idea that the economy may be coming in for a soft landing.
During the third quarter, historically a difficult time for markets, the Dow Jones Industrial Average turned in its best performance in 11 years, according to MarketWatch. Investors could hardly have asked for more: the Federal Reserve did not raise rates; energy prices fell significantly; MSN Money reported that the impact of the housing market slowdown may be behind us; and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance is predicting that real economic growth will be about 2.5% next year.
Of course, economic news is rarely all good or all bad. Tempering the positive news last week was the Commerce Department’s inflation data, which pushed the Federal Reserve’s favorite measure of inflation to an 11-year high, according to Yahoo! Finance. That reignited some investors’ concerns that the Fed may be forced to address inflation by raising rates again. In addition, the fact that the Dow Jones Industrials Average has been flirting with new highs has some technicians concerned. You can read more about the Dow in the next article.
Inflation may be a potential fly in the ointment, but rebounding markets, favorable Fed policy, falling energy prices, and a stabilizing housing market are all signs that the economy may be headed for slower but continued positive growth.

Past performance is no guarantee of future results. Indices are unmanaged and cannot be invested into directly. Three-, 5-, and 10-year returns are annualized. Assumes dividends are not reinvested.
There was a lot of talk last week about the Dow Jones Industrial Average (Dow) reaching an all-time high. While that sounds exciting, it doesn’t mean the economy will grow faster or the market will outperform. Indices like the Dow are not predictors of future performance. They tell us where the market has been and help investors better understand market trends.
The Dow crossed above record highs last week and normally that would be good news. However, some market technicians say this is one of the largest “non-confirmed” moves we’ve had in a long time. “Non-confirmed” means that some of the other indices are still a long ways from reaching their all-time highs and thus, have not “confirmed” the Dow’s move. For example, the Nasdaq is still about 55% below its all-time high and the S&P 500 is about 12.5% below its all-time high. While some market technicians think this is a short-term red flag, others think it may be setting the market up for a positive move into the middle of next year.
The Dow is one of the most widely followed stock market indices in the United States. It was developed by Charles Dow, the founder of Dow Jones & Company, as a means of measuring the performance of the industrial portion of American stock markets. When it was first published, way back in the late 1800s, it included 12 “smokestack” companies. Today, just one of those companies remains in the average: General Electric. Other charter members of the Dow have become parts of Unilever, Amstar Holdings, Michelin, and other companies.
Today, the Dow tracks 30 companies, many of which—like Citigroup and Coca Cola—are not involved in heavy industry. The DOW measures their movement and provides a price-weighted average performance each day. Price-weighted means that the performance of higher-priced company stocks is given more weight than that of lower-priced ones.
Is it possible that employers are looking at health care costs in the wrong way? That’s what Michael E. Porter, of Harvard Business School, and Elizabeth Olmsted Teisberg, of the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business, suggest in their new book, Redefining Health Care: Creating Value-Based Competition on Results. Not only does the pair identify ways to fix the broken healthcare system, they suggest that reducing benefits and shifting costs to employees is a mistake that reduces short-term costs and increases long-term ones in the form of lost productivity and sick time.
